The rupturing of the hell/earth veil is still screwing with everybody’s minds and the Midnighters get an unhappy blast from Joe’s past

The episode opens with a flashback to a millenia ago where we get Joe’s backstory. We meet the angel, Bowie, who taught Joe everything, and who he apparently pissed off at some point. Well, the bitch is back (in present day) and she is furious. She kills a demon (cuz that’s just what she does with demons) with her bare hands- or rather bare hand. She only needs one to get the job done.

Manfred is still getting strong visions. He is worried about Creek going back to work waitressing at Home Cookin’ only a few days after finding out her teen brother is a serial killer and her father his enabler. Creek insists on going and sulks away to work.

Manfred has a chat with his grandmother. He says he is thinking about reaching out to Creek’s (dead) mother. Grandma Xylda warns him this might actually backfire if Creek’s brother Connor perhaps got his psycho serial killer genes from Mama. Manfred relents.

At the Home Cookin’ when Creek arrives, Madonna is also worried about her and gives her busy work doing inventory to keep her mind busy. Creek’s not happy when Manfred shows up at her job. She snaps at him but he explains (lies) he isn’t there to be a helicopter boyfriend. He is working there today to stave off the appearance of the ghosts.

Fiji tells Rev that she is still hearing voices from the demon that the rupturing of the so-called veil between earth and hell is slowly unleashing.

Hard-headed Chuy did not heed Joe’s warning to leave town. He shows up at the Strong Angel Tattoo shop while Joe is working. Joe isn’t happy about this but Chuy tells him that they should ask the other Midnighters for help.

Rev gets a visit from Joe’s old friend Bowie. He refuses to cooperate so she attacks him and “reads” him by placing her hand (slapping) on his forehead. Getting the info she needs from reading the Rev, she leaves him and makes a grand scary entrance at Joe’s shop but he has gotten tipped off by Manfred and he and Chuy literally hide in the closet at Lem and olivia’s place. Really it’s Lem and Olivia’s panic room within a panic room. From his hiding space, Joe calls Manfred tells him that angels can read minds but won’t hurt humans. They hate anyone with supernatural powers however and will do them a lot of harm.

Bowie shows up at Manfred’s trailer and invites herself in. She grabs him and tries to read him but can’t. Hacking the supernatural system, Grandma already took up space in there to guard against just that.

Later on, Joe and the other Midnighters gather at Lem and Olivia’s place where he and Chuy ask them for help. Joe fills everyone in revealing that Bowie is hunting him because well she is furious that he spurned her and corned her and left her for a lowly disgusting demon. So everyone is now looking at Joe like he is crazy. What the hell is he talking about? Who the literal damn hell is this demon? Hasn’t Joe only been with Chuy for like, ever? Of course, we find out Chuy is in fact a demon- a nice one like Doyle or Cordelia from Angel. His mom is human. The Midnighters are at first angry that they didn’t say anything about this before but soon get over it. My guess is a little self-reflection shamed them by showing the depths of their hypocrisy. They ALL have secrets. Then they slowly realize that they can’t kill her. Demons can kill angels but Chuy apparently goes nuts for years at a time if he goes into demon mode.

Bobo and Fiji have a tense talk when everyone scrams. He tells her he loves her. He also tells her... he misses his white supremacist family. She tells him she has something important to attend to. She leaves.

Olivia and Lem also have a little heart to heart talk and she tells him that when she starts getting old, she will leave him. He tells her there are other options but she tells him no, she does not want to ever be a vampire. Lem plays off like he is cool with this but when she leaves, we can see he is deeply troubled at the thought of losing her.

Joe tells Manfred he doesn’t think it is exactly a coincidence that he showed up in Midnight right as the veil between earth and hell starts to fray. Joe tells Manfred that he thinks he is the one that can save them. Manfred thinks Joe is insane and tells him that.

Back at the Home Cookin Madonna lets Creek know she is worried that she is driving herself too hard after the trauma she just went through. Creek isn’t in the mood to hear anything at this point and leaves Madonna standing there. Creek goes to the church for solace but this being Midnight and all, probably the last place you find peace is at church. She finds an injured Rev and brings him back to the restaurant but they are too late. The angel, Bowie is there and just finished reading Madonna’s mind. Damn… Bowie orders Creek to get her a drink but Madonna, feeling protective of Creek, jumps up and says she will do it. Bowie screams that she KNOWS where Madonna got the money to buy the restaurant so she should shut up and sit down. Huh?

Bowie calls Manfred from Creek’s phone and lets him know she has everyone at the restaurant hostage and will kill them all if he doesn’t cough up Joe. Manfred tells Joe he should surrender.

The Rev tells her that he guesses Bowie is also a fallen angel. She says she had anger issues because of Joe. Joe, on the phone, asks her when did she start harming humans. She says since he started hiding behind them.

Joe shows up at the restaurant and confronts her in front of it. Manfred, Fiji, and Lem watch and work their magics to try and take her down. Bowie reads Manfred and derisively laughs at the fact that he thinks he will save the town from hell. She goes into a diatribe against Manfred and Joe attacks her when she is distracted with this but she is more than a match for him. Just as Bowie is about to finish Joe off, Chuy transforms into a demon and kills her in order to save Joe. Now out of control (Joe warned everybody) demon Chuy goes after Lem and they get into a heated battle that Lem is losing until Mafred distracts Chuy. Chuy goes after Manfred and Joe catches up to them and tries to get him to stop using the ultimate supernatural power of love.

After everything is over Creek is acting passive aggressive and standoffish toward Manfred. Madonna tells Creek that she needs to take another day off and not come in the next day.

Manfred spells out that he is staying in Midnight basically because he loves Creek.

Bobo shows up to a frustrated Fiji and lets her know that he is there for her.

Chuy tells Joe they have to get out of town because he is having a hard time fighting the veil.

Creek reveals that she is having a crisis of identity and has to break up with Manfred to figure things out.
